The lens through which you look at the world affects how you see it, and therefore what you do in it. What assumptions and beliefs do I hold? What is important to me?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\">The video, using Chris Argyris\u2019 Ladder of Inference, (see \u00a0\u201dIn Depth\u201d below) explains the importance of developing an awareness of what you choose to pay attention to (or not pay attention to), how this shapes your beliefs and ultimately your actions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\">In practice<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Here are two exercises to help you become more aware of how you see the world and how you act in it:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Find an artefact that you are particularly attached to; something which has some kind of special meaning or significance. Tell the story of how you came by it, why it is important to you, and what values, beliefs and assumptions of yours are reflected in it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Experiment with shifting away from \u2018advocating\u2019, (telling others what you think) toward an attitude of \u2018inquiring\u2019 (asking how others see it).
